‘Sen. Schumer: Support the Green New Deal’ – Activist protest outside Schumer's office.

NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 30, 2019: Youth climate activist from Sunrise NYC protesting outside Senator Chuck Schumer's office building in Midtown Manhattan (780 3rd Ave,) demanding that he support the Green New Deal. In a peaceful protest 7 activists blocked the entrance of 780 3rd Avenue and were arrested by the NYPD. Via Twitter the group identifies themselves as "a movement of young people uniting to stop climate change and make it a priority in US politics." The Green New Deal is a set of proposed economic stimulus programs in the United States that aims to address climate change and economic inequality. Angelo Roefaro, a spokesperson for Schumer's office, in response to the protest said in a statement that the senator "supports the goals and aspirations of the Green New Deal, believes the Sunrise Movement deserve enormous credit in elevating the climate crisis in the national dialogue, and looks forward to working with them to advance ambitious policies to reduce fossil fuel pollution and confront the enormous challenge of climate change."
