Gaza begins final stage of polio vaccination campaign in northern cities

GAZA, PALESTINE - SEPTEMBER 10: The final stage of the polio vaccination campaign for Palestinian children in the northern part of the Gaza Strip began on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Earlier in the day, WHO spokesperson Tarik Jasarevic said the three-day polio campaign in the north is going ahead from Tuesday and vaccines, cold chain equipment and finger markers were delivered to north Gaza on Monday. The polio vaccination campaign in south and central Gaza has concluded on Monday with over 446,000 children being vaccinated since the start of the campaign on Sept. 1, according to the spokesperson. Flouting a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate cease-fire, Israel has faced international condemnation amid its continued brutal offensive on Gaza since an Oct. 7, 2023 attack by Palestinian group Hamas. Over 11 months into the Israeli war, vast tracts of Gaza lie in ruins amid a crippling blockade of food, clean water, and medicine.
