Dust clouds from N. Africa engulf multiple Turkish cities, health warnings issued

ISTANBUL, IZMIR, ANKARA, TÜRKİYE - APRIL 25: Dust clouds from North Africa settled over several cities in Türkiye on Thursday (April 24). The dust clouds were swept from North Africa into western Türkiye including Istanbul and Izmir, diminishing the line of sight in traffic. Prof. Dr. Demet Karnak, a renowned expert from the Department of Chest Diseases at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine, warned citizens to stay indoors. She emphasized that particles carried in the air due to dust storms can lead to various health issues, especially for individuals with asthma, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), and those with weakened immune systems. The phenomenon was also visible in neighboring Greece's Athens the earlier day (April 23), turning the sky orange. Libya's Tripoli was also among the affected cities.
