US congresswoman burst into tears during pro-Palestine protest in Washington

WASHINGTON, US - OCT. 18: US congresswoman Rashida Tlaib burst into tears during a pro-Palestine protest in Washington, on Wednesday (Oct. 18). Gathering to rally against Israel's attacks on Palestine, demonstrators held a protest near the Capitol building, demanding "ceasefire". During his speech at the rally, Palestinian-origin US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib burst into tears and said “I'm telling you right now, President Biden, not all Americans with you on this one. And you need to wake up and understand that. We are literally still watching people commit to genocide and killing the vast majority just like this and we still stand by and say nothing.” US Congresswoman Cori Bush also addressed the participants at the demonstration, which was also supported by many anti-war Jewish groups. “Less than a week ago only a handful of members of Congress dared to utter the word ceasefire. We were called by our Administration ‘repugnant’. They called us ‘disgraceful’ for pushing peace but if you know the pain of oppression if you know what it's like to not understand how you can walk outside of your home,” said Bush. At least 471 people were killed and 342 injured in the Israeli airstrike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza, the Gaza Health Ministry said Wednesday. Israel has denied responsibility for the strike. The conflict began on Oct. 7 when the Palestinian group Hamas initiated Operation Al-Aqsa Flood -- a multi-pronged surprise attack that included a barrage of rocket launches and infiltrations into Israel by land, sea and air. Hamas said the incursion was in retaliation for the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque and growing violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians (Footage by Yasin Ozturk /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
