Men Abandoning Aircraft Carrier USS Lexington

(Original Caption) 6/12/42-Washington, D.C.: Men swarm over the side of the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Lexington on the captain's order to abandon ship, after it was hit by Japs in the battle of the Coral Sea. They are sliding down ropes, not jumping; and it is said that not a man was lost in abandoning ship. A destroyer, which can be seen at right through the smoke, is taking off the sick and wounded. The Japs paid in full when U.S. forces sunk 15 of their vessels, one of them the aircraft carrier Ryukaku. (Original Caption)
